About FrolixFiberworx
FrolixFiberworx
About fifteen years ago I began experimenting with batik, shibori, and other techniques for hand-dyeing fabric. I only process small batches, using permanent, low impact, water-based fiber reactive dyes- industry standard for permanent, sustainable dyeworks. While researching to find a few reliable apparel sources that would allow me to offer my dyework to the public, I discovered that it was harder than expected to find 100% organic products for my base. They are more often blended with elastane, polyester, or recycled plastic products. Even a little bit of these synthetic additives have an effect on the ability to dye evenly, but more importantly, even 5% elastene (formerly known as spandex) can keep organic cotton from being recycled and biodegrading when its life as clothing is through. So I've spend the last few months compiling lists of products that are pure enough for me to be proud about dyeing and offering to my community. I'm proud to promote each of these products I have listed at Frolix, and I can't wait to dye some of them up and add them to a new Collection called "One of a Kind Artisan Made" on www.frolix.us.
I am also excited to have an opportunity to share this space with other artists who are willing to make the same commitment, to only work in 100% organic cotton, hemp, or bamboo fabrics and to use either fiber reactive low impact or colorfast natural dyeing techniques. If you would like to recommend a creator or brand you feel would be a good fit, please reach out to me at frolix@frolix.us.
